The Dark Artifices: Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare
“Everyone is afraid of something. We fear things because we value them. We fear losing people because we love them. We fear dying because we value being alive. Don’t wish you didn’t fear anything. All that would mean is that you didn’t feel anything.”
Spoilers, be cautious!
If you have never read a Cassandra Clare’s novel, then I have one question for you; what the hell are you waiting for? Go to the nearest bookshop, order it online, or even download it, just READ IT! If you’re a huge fan of the supernatural with a mix of humor, love, and heartbreak, then Cassandra Clare is your new favorite author.
One thing I always appreciated about Cassandra Clare’s writing is her ability to utterly and completely consume the reader, not only during the reading process but days, weeks, even months after putting down that book. You either laugh or cry over the hearting breaking scenes, or you come up with a couple of theories conserving the storyline and the characters, basically, the stories and the characters become the center of your life. But the thing that I always admired or I am sure always will is her motifs of family, friendship, and love.
If you’re a fan of Cassandra Clare and already read her previous series TMI & TID then you are not new to the destruction and the heartache that the book leaves in its path.
And Lord of Shadows was no exception!
Everything about the second installment of the Dark Artifices trilogy was amazing, the smooth transition of the plot, and the development of the characters, an extra treat was the appearance of several characters of TMI series.
“Fiction is truth, even if it is not fact. If you believe only in facts and forget stories, your brain will live, but your heart will die.”
Lord of Shadows begins after the events of Lady Midnight, with the Blackthorns trying to pick up the broken pieces after the destructive confrontation with Malcolm, while at the same time fighting for their home; the LA Institute. Emma finds her entire life turned upside down, after finally avenging her family, but finds herself in a new dilemma when she learns about the Parabatai curse that could be the end of both her and Julian! And to make matters worse the group finds out not only that the Unseelie King is plotting a war against them, but also that Malcolm still had a few tricks up his sleeve even after his death.
Cassandra also in this book tackles several heavy topics such as Autism, Sexuality, and Transgender!
However the arrow in the heart, and that it ending, without giving too much away, I am not exaggerating when I say that it will DESTROY YOU, I have never cried as hard as when I read those last three pages, I would really like to know how Cassandra was able to fill those three pages with that amount of chaos!
Five Golden Stars Cassandra, amazing work as usual! Can’t wait to read the third installment of this outstanding trilogy!
